Kim Jong-il in Russia for talks with Medvedev

North Korean leader arrives in armored train on the first visit to Russia for nine years, to discuss long natural gas pipeline

Kim Jong-il, has traveled the armored train to Eastern Siberia for a summit with Russian President Dmitry Medvedev.

The North Korean leader arrived in Ulan Ude, capital of Buryatia, a Buddhist province near Lake Baikal, Russian news agencies. Kim Caravan left the city in the direction of Turka, a picturesque village on the shores of Lake Baikal.

Yonhap news said the summit Medvedev-Kim is scheduled for Wednesday.

talks could focus on an agreement for a flow of Russian natural gas pipeline through the territory of North Korea and South. South Korean media said the North could earn up to $ 100 million per year.

Kim crossed Russia on Saturday morning and passed through Khabarovsk, before heading to the west by a railway that runs roughly parallel to the borders of Russia with China and Mongolia.

This is Kim's first visit to Russia in nine years. North Korea is also pushing to restart six-party talks on nuclear disarmament in return for aid, after more than a year of tension during which bombed an island bordering South Korea and apparently torpedoed a battleship South Korea.
Russian military officers came to the North Korean capital, Pyongyang, on Monday for a five-day visit. The Russian Defense Ministry said the talks will focus on the renewal of military cooperation between countries, joint exercises possible "humanitarian" and an exchange of friendly visits of ships from Russia and North Korea, the Itar-Tass news agency reported.
